Your keyholder disappeared
It is the most common bad experience in online chastity: someone took your key, and then they stopped replying. Days pass. You do not know if they are ignoring you, ill, bored, or gone.
This page is about getting out safely first, and about the platform question second. It applies whatever site you are using — most of it has nothing to do with us.
If something hurts, stop reading and deal with that
Numbness, persistent pain, swelling, discolouration, broken skin, discharge, or any change in colour that does not go away are not things to wait out, and they are not things to feel embarrassed about.
Remove the device. If you cannot, go to an emergency department. Emergency staff have seen this before — genuinely, it is common enough to be unremarkable to them — and they will not lecture you. A ring can be cut off in minutes. Tissue damage from waiting is permanent.
No arrangement, promise, or protocol survives this. Anyone who would want you to sit on a medical problem to preserve a scene is not someone whose opinion should be weighing on you.
Getting out when nothing is wrong medically
Work through it in this order.
- Check the platform. Most keyholding sites hold your combination and release it under some condition — a timer expiring, an emergency release, or ending the lock yourself. On Keyhold you can always end your own lock, and doing so reveals your combination. Look for that before anything physical.
- Check your own backups. A second key in an envelope, with a friend, or in a safe is standard practice and not cheating. If you left yourself one, this is what it was for.
- Cut the lockbox, not the device. If your key is in a combination lockbox, the box is the cheap part. Bolt cutters on a lockbox shackle are far easier and safer than working on something you are wearing.
- If it comes to the device itself, most are defeated at the base ring, and plastic ones can usually be cut with a hacksaw or heavy shears with a barrier between blade and skin. Do it in good light, unhurried, with someone else there if you can. If you feel rushed or panicky, that is the moment to choose the emergency department instead.
Losing a device costs less than a night in A&E and much less than an injury. Devices are replaceable.
Give them a little room first, but not unlimited
People vanish for ordinary reasons: illness, work, a dead phone, a relationship, a life that quietly stopped having room for this. A day or two of silence is not abandonment.
What matters is whether you agreed in advance on what silence means. If you did not, the honest answer is that you have no way to distinguish a busy week from being dropped, and you are entitled to end the arrangement rather than wait indefinitely on someone else’s schedule.
Making it less likely next time
Before you hand over a key again, settle these:
- How long is too long? Agree on a number of days of silence after which you release yourself, no hard feelings, no negotiation required in the moment.
- Where else do you reach each other? One account on one platform is a single point of failure.
- Do they have history? Someone with finished locks behind them and a visible track record is a different proposition from a three-day-old profile with an intense manner.
- Do you have your own way out? A spare key you control is not a lack of commitment. It is the thing that lets you commit at all.
What we built about this
This problem is the reason Keyhold exists in the shape it does, so treat the rest of this section as interested rather than neutral.
Every profile carries a public reliability score with a published formula, so a track record is visible before you hand over a key rather than after. Locks that go silent are detected and counted rather than quietly abandoned. If a keyholder-controlled lock sees no keyholder activity for 14 days, we tell the wearer — it does not end the lock, because that is your call, but you find out.
And you can always end your own lock and see your combination. That is deliberate, it is not going to change, and any platform that takes it away has confused a fantasy about control with a safety failure.
Free, no card: three active locks, multiple keyholders, and a reliability score on every profile so you can see who finishes what they start.
